What to Eat on Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro: A Practical GLP-1 Food Guide

A practical GLP-1 food guide for Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro users — protein first meals, smaller portions, hydration tips, fiber guidance and gluten-free SmashMeals options.

When appetite changes, the fridge has to be ready. A GLP-1 medication may reduce hunger, but it does not cook protein for Tuesday lunch. SmashMeals helps people make the next good choice easier.

Start with protein first

When appetite is smaller, every bite has to do more work. Protein should be the anchor of the meal. Strong options: chicken, turkey, lean beef, eggs, egg whites, salmon, shrimp, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese (if tolerated), beans, chickpeas, and protein-forward prepared meals.

Choose smaller meals more often

Large meals can feel uncomfortable on GLP-1 medications. Try breakfast, lunch, dinner, and one planned snack rather than accidentally surviving on coffee and one heroic bite of chicken.

Keep quality carbs in the plan

Carbs are not the enemy. Good options: rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes, oats, fruit, beans, quinoa, and gluten-free crackers with hummus as tolerated.

Add fiber gently

Increase fiber gradually and drink fluids. Berries, green beans, spinach, carrots, beans, gluten-free oats, and sweet potatoes are useful options.

Hydrate between meals

Sip water through the day. If drinking with meals makes you too full, drink between meals. Ask your medical team about electrolytes if you have GI symptoms.

Be careful with rich, greasy, or fried foods

Many GLP-1 users find that fried foods, heavy cream sauces, large portions of cheese, alcohol, very spicy foods, or huge late-night meals are harder to tolerate.

The SmashMeals GLP-1 plate

Protein first, vegetables second, quality carbs third, fats and sauces thoughtfully. A good plate: grilled chicken with rice and green beans, salmon with rice and vegetables, an egg white breakfast, turkey taco bowl, Greek yogurt with berries, or shrimp with cauliflower grits.
