Home kitchens almost always have flour, bread crumbs, and shared cutting boards, so a homemade casserole — however loving — can be a real problem for a family managing celiac disease. The simplest safe option is food from a kitchen that never has gluten in it. SmashMeals has cooked in a dedicated gluten-free kitchen since 2017. Order for your meal-train day, add a note, and the family gets real, labeled food they don't have to question.

Why Meal Trains Are Hard for Gluten-Free Families
Celiac disease isn't a preference: even small amounts of gluten can trigger the immune reaction, and cross-contact — a shared toaster, a spoon used in regular pasta, flour in the air — is enough. That's why a lot of celiac families quietly set aside homemade meal-train food, or skip the meal train altogether. The Celiac Disease Foundation explains why cross-contact matters.
If you're the one signed up to bring dinner, that puts you in a hard spot. You want to help, but you can't promise your kitchen is gluten-free, and "gluten-free" labels on store food don't tell you how it was prepared.
What to Bring Instead
Send food made where gluten never enters the building. Every SmashMeals meal is cooked in our dedicated gluten-free kitchen in Kingsport, Tennessee — no wheat, barley, or rye on site, no shared gluten-containing equipment — and carries a full ingredient label. Other allergens are handled in the facility, so the family can check each label for anything else they avoid.
- For the whole household: family-sized dishes or family freezer meals.
- For the weeks after: individual entrées they can heat one at a time, from this week's menu.
- For a longer need: order more than one week. There's no subscription, so you can stop anytime.
How to Fill Your Meal-Train Slot
- Order by Thursday 11:59 PM ET at order.smashmeals.com.
- Enter the family's address at checkout and add a gift note — we'll print it and pack it with the meals.
- In the Tri-Cities, choose pickup (and drop it off yourself) or local delivery. Anywhere else we ship to, it's $30 flat-rate FedEx Ground to eligible addresses.
- Mark your slot on the meal-train sign-up as "SmashMeals delivery — dedicated gluten-free kitchen" so the family knows it's safe before it arrives.
Delivery timing depends on the destination, so it may not land on your exact sign-up day. Because the meals keep in the refrigerator or freezer per their labels, many people use them to cover the quieter weeks after the first wave of meals ends.

How ordering works
- 1. Pick your meals Browse the menu that's live this week and choose what you want. Subscriptions are optional — order one week, every week, or whenever you need it.
- 2. Choose how you get them Free pickup at our Kingsport kitchen and Grab & Go partners, $15 home delivery in the Tri-Cities, or $30 flat-rate FedEx Ground for eligible addresses. Orders close Thursday 11:59 PM Eastern.
- 3. Heat and eat Meals are fully cooked and ready to heat. Local pickup and delivery meals arrive fresh, never frozen; shipped meals are flash-frozen for transit. Follow each item's storage and reheating directions.
- Dedicated gluten-free kitchen — We do not bring wheat, barley, or rye into the building and we do not share equipment with gluten-containing production. A dedicated gluten-free facility is not an allergen-free facility — check each label for other allergens.
- Transparent nutrition — Many current menu listings include calories and macros. Check each selected meal's label and ask for any ingredient or nutrient detail you need to make a choice.
- Cooked in Kingsport since 2017 — Founder-run production kitchen at 1917 Meadowview Parkway, Kingsport, TN — the same kitchen for local pickup, local delivery, and shipped orders.
Gluten-Free Meal Train FAQ
- What can I bring to a meal train for someone with celiac disease?
- Food prepared where gluten can't get in. Homemade food risks cross-contact from shared pans, utensils, and flour. SmashMeals are cooked in a dedicated gluten-free kitchen with no wheat, barley, or rye on site, and every meal has a full ingredient label. Other allergens are handled in the facility, so the family should check each label.
- Can I send SmashMeals to someone in another state?
- Yes, if their address is in our shipping area. Shipping is a $30 flat rate by FedEx Ground to eligible addresses. Add a gift note at checkout and we'll pack it with the meals.
- Will the meals arrive on my exact meal-train day?
- Not always. Orders close Thursday at 11:59 PM ET, and delivery timing depends on the destination and carrier. Tri-Cities pickup lets you drop meals off yourself on your day. Shipped meals keep per their labels, so they work well for the later weeks of a meal train.
- Do I have to sign up for a subscription?
- No. Order once for your slot. There is no subscription and no minimum order.
