SmashMeals is a Tennessee prepared-meal company founded in 2017 by Lewis "Lew" Kizer. We cook fully prepared meals in a dedicated gluten-free kitchen at 1917 Meadowview Pkwy Suite 100, Kingsport, TN 37660 — about four hours up I-75 from Chattanooga — portion them individually, label them with macros and heating instructions, and ship them to Chattanooga households. We are not a meal kit: nothing needs cooking, chopping, or a recipe card. Chattanooga is served through shipping rather than local delivery, because our local delivery area is the Tri-Cities (Kingsport, Johnson City, Bristol).
SmashMeals cooks in a dedicated gluten-free facility. We do not bring wheat, barley, or rye into the building and we do not share equipment with gluten-containing production. A dedicated gluten-free facility is not an allergen-free facility. Check each meal's label for dairy, soy, egg, nuts, and other allergens.
Precision matters here, so here is exactly what we do and do not claim. We do operate a dedicated facility rather than a gluten-free line inside a shared bakery or a shared commercial kitchen, which reduces cross-contact risk compared with shared production. We do not claim a third-party certification we do not hold, and we do not claim an allergen-free facility — dairy, soy, egg, and other allergens are present in the building and are listed on each meal's label. If you are evaluating any Chattanooga meal service for celiac disease, ask that provider the same two questions: is the facility dedicated, and what does the label disclose? Our Trust Center documents our answer.
Is a subscription required? No. Subscriptions are an optional convenience. You can order one week, skip the next three, and come back in the fall without penalty.
| Option | Available to Chattanooga? | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Free pickup | Only if you are traveling to the Tri-Cities | Free pickup at our Kingsport kitchen (1917 Meadowview Pkwy Suite 100) and partner Grab & Go locations across the Tri-Cities. |
| Local home delivery ($15) | No — Tri-Cities only | $15 home delivery inside our local service area — the Tri-Cities (Kingsport, Johnson City, Bristol). |
| FedEx Ground shipping ($30 flat) | Yes — this is how Chattanooga is served | $30 flat-rate FedEx Ground shipping for eligible addresses outside our local delivery area. Flat rate means the shipping price does not rise with basket size. |
Chattanooga-area addresses we ship to include Downtown & Southside, North Shore, St. Elmo, Hixson, East Brainerd, Ooltewah, Signal Mountain, Lookout Mountain, Red Bank, Collegedale, East Ridge, Cleveland, TN. Coverage is determined at checkout by your address, not by a neighborhood list — if you want to confirm before ordering, enter your address at order.smashmeals.com, or call 423-525-2489 and we will check it with you. We would rather tell you no than guess.
The menu rotates weekly. That is deliberate — the most common reason people quit prepared meals is eating the same six dishes until they cannot look at them. Because the lineup changes, we do not publish a fixed dish list or per-meal macro numbers in a page like this one; both live on the current menu, where they are accurate. Every meal carries its own nutrition label with the macros as produced.
What is consistent week to week:
GLP-1. Reduced appetite is the intended effect of these medications, and the practical problem it creates is fitting a day's nutrition through a smaller opening. Individually portioned, macro-labeled, protein-forward meals make it easier to follow the plan your prescriber or dietitian set — they are not a treatment, and they do not replace that plan. Many Chattanooga customers split one meal across two sittings; see our guide for people who can only eat half a meal and the GLP-1 meals page.
Bariatric. Post-op texture and stage progression are set by your surgical program. SmashMeals options are intended only when prepared solid or soft meals already fit your approved stage. Our bariatric line is built around high protein, softer textures, and controlled portions, but no meal service can be pre-approved for your stage. This is general nutrition education, not medical advice. Nutrition needs and tolerance vary — follow the guidance of your prescriber, surgical program, or registered dietitian.
Families. Order however many meals the household will actually eat; portions are individual, so a gluten-free eater and everyone else can eat from the same order without separate cooking. See gluten-free family meals.
Athletes and teams. Macros are printed per meal, which is what makes prepared food usable for anyone tracking intake. Tournament weekends, travel days, and post-practice meals are common use cases — order volume is flexible with no minimum or maximum, and everything works backward from the Thursday 11:59 PM Eastern cutoff. See athletes and teams and the tournament weekend guide.
Bulk, team, and catering requests that do not fit the standard weekly order are handled directly — get in touch and we will tell you what is possible for your date.
Chattanooga has a genuinely good local meal-prep market, and several services here are worth your money depending on what you need. Rather than telling you we win every comparison — we do not — here are the criteria that actually decide it. Apply them to us and to everyone else.
| Decision criterion | What to ask any provider | Where SmashMeals lands |
|---|---|---|
| Gluten-free environment | Is the kitchen dedicated gluten-free, or gluten-free items made in a shared kitchen? Many local services state plainly that they cannot guarantee an allergen-free kitchen because surfaces are shared — that is honest, and it matters if you have celiac disease. | Dedicated gluten-free facility; not an allergen-free facility; no certification claimed. |
| Fulfillment model | Local delivery, café pickup, or shipping? Local-only services are convenient if you are in town and useless the week you are not. | Shipping to Chattanooga at $30 flat; pickup and $15 delivery are Tri-Cities only. |
| Subscription requirements | Is a weekly plan required, and how hard is it to skip? | Subscription optional; no minimum or maximum. |
| Macro transparency | Are macros printed per meal as produced, or estimated from a recipe? | Printed on every meal. |
| Portion options | Is there anything smaller than a standard entrée for a reduced appetite? | Full meals plus smaller à la carte items. |
| Calorie ceilings vs. protein floors | Some plans are built around staying under a calorie number; others around hitting protein. Which matches your goal? | Protein-forward cooking with the numbers on the label so you can judge for yourself. |
| Menu variety | Fixed catalog or rotating menu? | Rotates weekly. |
| Family and bulk options | Can one order feed a household or a team? | Yes — no order-size cap; larger requests handled directly. |
| Freshness model | Fresh-only local, or frozen for transit? | Local orders fresh; shipped orders frozen for transit. |
If your priority is same-day café pickup on Broad Street, a local Chattanooga kitchen will beat a shipped service on convenience. If your priority is food produced outside a shared-gluten environment, with printed macros and no subscription, that is the specific thing we built. Compare on criteria, not on marketing.
| Format | Active work per meal | Portion & macro control | Gluten control | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Prepared meals (us) | Reheating | Fixed and printed | Depends on the producer's facility | Nights cooking will not happen |
| Meal kits | 20–40 minutes plus cleanup | Whatever you plate | Your kitchen plus their facility | People who enjoy cooking |
| Takeout | None | Rarely disclosed | Shared kitchen, verbal assurances | Occasional convenience |
| DIY Sunday prep | Hours, once a week | Total control | Total control, in your own kitchen | People whose Sundays reliably happen |
Longer version: prepared meals vs. meal kits in 2026.
Meal pricing lives on the current menu, because that is the only place it can stay accurate. What we will state here, because it is fixed: shipping to Chattanooga is $30 flat rate via FedEx Ground, and it does not increase with order size — so the per-meal share of shipping falls as the order grows. There is no membership fee, no minimum, and no subscription requirement.
To judge value honestly, compare against what you actually spent the last two weeks — groceries plus what spoiled plus takeout — not against an idealized cooking week. And if you are ordering for a celiac household, price the failure mode too: one cross-contact incident costs more than a week of food.
