Downtown Kingsport Restaurant Week is underway through Sunday, October 11, giving locals a reason to try a different lunch spot or make time for dinner downtown. The Downtown Kingsport Association’s event listing confirms the October 5-11 dates and links to the event’s digital passport.
More than 30 businesses are participating with specials and other offerings, according to WJHL’s October 5 report, syndicated by AOL. The report says checking in at at least four participating businesses enters customers into prize drawings.
Robin Cleary, senior director of the Downtown Kingsport Association, told WJHL: “I want them to get out, find someplace new that they’ve never been to before, get to know the people that own it.”
Pick a place and make a plan
If you have been meaning to try somewhere downtown, choose a day while the event is still running. Check the official event page and passport for participating locations, then confirm the restaurant’s hours and current offer before heading out. A special that works for lunch may have different availability at dinner.
There is no need to turn the week into a marathon. Pick an outing that fits your schedule and budget. If you are meeting friends, settle on the time and place first so a last-minute decision does not eat up the evening. For allergies or other dietary requirements, ask the restaurant directly rather than guessing from a short menu description.
The passport adds a reason to explore, but the visit can be worthwhile on its own. Ask about a dish you have not tried, take a look at the menu beyond the special, and make a note of a place you want to return to after Sunday.
Leave room for meals at home
A week that includes eating out still has plenty of everyday meals to organize. Put the restaurant visit on your calendar, check what is already in the fridge, and plan the other meals around what you will actually be home to eat. That can help avoid buying more food than you have time to use.
“A good food week can include a meal out and an easy dinner at home. Put both on the calendar so you’re buying food you’ll actually have time to enjoy.” — Lew Kizer, SmashMeals
For meals at home, SmashMeals offers a separate prepared-meal option when you want less cooking. Keep the downtown outing on the calendar and decide which other meals you want to handle at home.
