The physiological signature is repeated high-intensity effort with almost no true recovery. Protein plus carbohydrate. The protein supports the adaptation you just paid for; the carbohydrate starts refilling glycogen ahead of tomorrow's session.
If you train twice in a day, the gap between sessions is when carbohydrate matters most.
Easy or rest days
Protein stays roughly constant across the week; carbohydrate is the dial you turn down when the training load drops.
Rest days are a good place for higher-fibre, more vegetable-heavy meals that you would avoid before compromised running.
Race week
Nothing new. Race week is for repeating meals you have already eaten before hard sessions.
Increase carbohydrate in the final days if that is what you have practised, keep fibre moderate the day before, and finalise your in-race fluid and carbohydrate plan separately from your meals.
